Alex is an excellent playmaker, mainly due to his ability to play up the boards, win battles, and shift around defenders to create passing lanes which he utilizes to generate high scoring chances. Add in his agility and his controlled puck handling, he easily finds himself low on the offensive. His performance on the penalty kill was also impressive, often playing high on whoever was quarterbacking. He was also not afraid to use aggressive stick work to limit how much time they had to analyze the play, forcing them to act or tightening up passing lanes through the middle of the ice.
